In a long-term study of the health of the people of in the United States, the U.S. Public Health Service documented the chances of developing heart disease among various groups in the population. Long before the any symptoms appeared, epidemiological research could identify high-risk groups.

Among the highest risk factors are male sex, age over 35, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, high levels of certain blood fats, and a family history of cardiovascular disorders.

Other researchers have added to this list another risk factor: the compulsive, hard-driving, highly anxious personality. The greater the number of severity, the greater the person's overall risk.

What Are the Benefits of Cardio Training?

    You can expect more energy and higher endurance after some time of regular cardio training.
  2. Prevents Diseases
    One could prevent heart diseases with regular cardio training. It is also helpful in preventing other variety of diseases like diabetes, obesity and even high cholesterol. The cardiovascular training strengthens the heart and the lungs. The low to moderated type of cardio exercises are required for people seeking to prevent diseases. Examples of these are walking, brisk walking or jogging.
  3. Control Your Weight
    With cardio training, you are able to burn more calories. This will help one who needs to lose weight. While those who already achieved their ideal body mass, the training will make it easier to control the weight.

    Cardio training helps burn calories. However this generally depends on your current weight and the kind of cardio training you are undergoing. Better consult this matter with your physician or trainer, to know the proper type of training for your needs.

  4. Lose Body Fats
    Some people do not have problem with their weights. However, there may be some excess fats that keep bothering. Cardio training will help in getting rid of those. The activities involve the movements of large muscle groups. Regularly doing the training will make you leaner.
  5. Get Rid of Boredom
    Cardio training is fun. It pumps up your system. You will definitely feel more energized and on the go.

It is good to do the cardio exercises outdoors. This way you can easily interact with nature and breathe fresh air. You can also simply enjoy going around the neighborhood as you get your system healthier by the minute. It is possible to make some friends among the people who also do their exercises.

Be consistent and stick with the training once you have started it. This is the only way that cardio training will benefit your body and your health in the long run.

Using the cardio machines when reading newspapers or magazines.

Have you noticed how people just go at their leisure to the gym and read newspapers or take a favorite book with them when they are on the exercise bikes, recumbent bikes or even the cross trainers ? They are the same people that if you track their progress or lack thereof over a period of time they generally don't show any results. The reason why they don't show any results is that they are just moving, which as we have mentioned before isn't a bad thing, but it can be better. It's fine if you don't want results and everyone is different. Remember having me time is different for everybody. For those who want the results and want to better themselves well be prepared for some hard work and in the process, work up a little sweat. Reading while using the cardio machines does not enable you to focus on what you are doing because you are concentrating on what's written in front of you. Doing this, you can't really give your best. You are far better off taking your ipod and listening to some up beat music to really motivate you to get you going!! Leave the reading for the train or bus!

Going to workout only because you are feeling guilty from eating the wrong foods.

Yes, I am sure we have all been here before! I've just eaten that mars bar ... or that piece of cheese cake ... and I feel really bad, I shouldn't have done that, I wished I hadn't! - Thoughts and feelings like this are more common than you think. Exercise and a fitness program should be fun not a frantic attempt to purge the body and not something that you do in order to exhibit damage control over bad eating behaviors.

This type of behavior may lead to eating disorders later on down the track. People often exercise excessively for fear of gaining an ounce and the compulsion to exercise at this level can lead to a greater increase in the risk of injury, and even said to be a reason behind Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

This is why it is so important to follow a nutritional eating plan and use exercise for getting fit, maintaining health and staying in control in the first place not as an excuse to eat the wrong types of foods or to overeat either!!

Avoiding lifting weights and only using the cardio machines.

Cardiovascular fitness is important to our overall health but it's only one facet of it. As we have also mentioned before numerous times, to have the maximum results a combination of cardio, strength and flexibility training is vital in bringing together the big picture on fitness.

Weight training is very important because not only is it good for all people, it will increase or maintain suppleness, lean body mass, bone mineral density, promotes faster fat burning through the increase of lean muscle tissue, increases functional strength, improves power and boosts performance and as we have mentioned before it promotes joint stability, improves your posture and metabolic rate, can reduce your risk of injury and assist while recovering from an injury. It can also help to ward off and/or alleviate symptoms associated with diseases, illnesses and conditions such as diabetes, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, stroke and coronary heart disease. Not forgetting that you will look awesome!

Keep in mind what you need the fitness equipment to do, so you buy the machines or devices that will help you reach your goals. Weight loss will require both cardio and strength training, toning will require strength as well as limited cardio, and muscle development or body building will require specific, increasingly challenging weight designed to work particular muscles of the body. Using the wrong type of home fitness equipment in your workout will only lead to frustration and disappointment in your results.

Not all home fitness equipment fits everyone, despite what the infomercials state. If you are planning to invest in some of the more costly types of home gym equipment, be sure to try it out at a retail store or sports store before actually buying it. All equipment is designed for average height and weight adults, so people that are heavier, lighter, taller or shorter than the average may find even the most expensive home gyms and equipment simply don't fit their body. In addition, remember that most home equipment does not have the same safety features as some of the commercially available equipment and is not recommended for use by children or even young teens.

There are many advantages to having your own workout equipment right at home. It is easy to use, convenient, plus you may find time to work out in between activities at home that you would never be able to work into your schedule if you had to go to the gym. One final tip: consider looking around at used home fitness equipment if you are trying to set up an exercise space on a limited budget.

A Cardio Routine is one of keys to healthy weight loss. Having a routine will help you maintain a healthy heart and will burn off loads upon loads of calories. Your cardio routine can include jogging, running, swimming, biking, hiking, or any other cardiovascular exercises. These exercises are going to be the way that you lose the weight!

A lot of people will try and tell you that sticking to a cardio routine is hard. The only reason those people tell you this is because they failed. They're just trying to take you down, and don't let them! If you pace yourself and don't overexert yourself too much, then you're cardio routine is going to blast off! People start going gung-ho and tire themselves out quick.

Begin with a pace that you're comfortable with, and then progress from there. Marathon runners couldn't run a marathon when they started, so don't push yourself too hard! You're cardio routine will succeed if you can properly pace yourself. You will lose weight when you pace yourself, and understand that you can't take off all the weight in one day. You can do this!

Take a running routine for example. If you're not all that great at it, then just begin running a half-mile a day (that's only 6 blocks). Do this four days a week as your routine. When you feel comfortable, increase your running to 3/4-a mile (9 blocks). When you start out slowly, then you're burning more calories and not going too hard on yourself. Then you can increase your cardio routine by going 1 mile and beyond! You can apply this pacing principle to any cardio you perform. If you choose to add swimming to your cardio routine, then measuring swimming distance will be extremely hard so time yourself instead! It's really easy if you will just give it a shot. It worked for me and it will work for you!

There's also small choices that you can make to add to your cardio routine. For example, you can try walking to places that are close to home instead of driving. Walking burns a large amount of calories! The more you walk, the more you burn! Park your car further away from your destination so you can give yourself more opportunities to walk. If you have a dog or other pet, play with it more! If you have children, join them outside and play games with them. You'll see that the more physical activity that you add, the easier it will get over time. You'll see results soon, I promise! Start moving around, and add more physical activities to your daily schedule. Your cardio routine won't be hard, but it will be time-consuming. Just imagine your new self-confidence and awesome body!

Let me just give you some examples of some great cardio routines:

1. Running 10 minutes, or jogging for 25minutes
2. Biking for 20 minutes
3. Hiking for 25 minutes
4. Power-walk for 30 minutes

To minimize boredom, try mixing it up a little. Run for 10 minutes on Monday, then hike on Wednesday. Bike on Friday, then Power-walk on Saturday. A hike is not only physically good for you, it's so beautiful. You get to see and smell things that you normally never get to smell. It's so great, and the more you do it the more you'll love it.

Building a cardio routine and sticking to it is not hard. It's easy. YES! You will do it. YES! You will lose weight. YES! You will feel better about yourself. Believe in yourself, and you will succeed. Don't ever let yourself down. Never tell yourself you can't do something! You can do anything if you set your mind to it. So get out and go!

Increasing your cardiovascular endurance should be one of your key goals for your exercise sessions. When your cardiovascular system is performing well, your everyday tasks become even easier. The better your cardio capacity is, then you'll be able to work out longer and harder, and burn more calories in a shorter timescale. So how do you build your cardio endurance?

By far the best way to start is buy measuring your level of cardiovascular fitness. Use your fitness trainer or gym's professional testing equipment to measure your aerobic strength. If you don't have a personal fitness trainer, and don't work out in a gym, here’s a simple technique that can help you measure your cardio strength, followed by some tips for cardio toning.

Begin by standing with your arms resting at your sides, and your feet shoulder-width apart. Take a deep breath and begin walking, quite briskly, letting your arms swing gently. Do this for about two minutes, and then start doing jumping jacks, using both arms and legs. Do as many of these as possible three minutes, with no resting.

Then stand still and take your pulse. Your ideal pulse rate should be about 75-85% of your maximum heart rate (and to find this, subtract your age from 220). Remember that this is a very basic formula and can only give you a rough idea of your maximum and ideal heart rates. There are a range of devices available that can track your heart rate (and other measures) whilst you exercise. If you are serious about getting the very best cardio conditioning possible, you may want to purchase one of these .

If your heart rate was far above the upper ranges of 85%, you need to lower your activity level and start building more strength without placing so much stress on your body. But if your heart rate 75%, then your aerobic health is likely in good condition, and you should be OK to work harder. If your heart rate was within the 75-85% range, then you are at a comfortable stage with your aerobic capacity, and should work on increasing your activity just a bit, to build more capacity. Always remember, though, if you feel lightheaded or dizzy during a workout, stop moving immediately and rest until you feel better.

Here are some methods to increase your aerobic capacity:

Work Out For Longer
Simply by increasing your workout by quarter of an hour, you can burn up to one hundred additional calories. And you'll also increase your cardio capacity. It should take you about 3 weeks to notice a difference.

Use Your Arms As Well
If your main exercise is walking, jogging, or running, simply add arm movements to your routine. Try lifting your arms over above your head for two paces and then back down for two more. Yes, it may look funny but your heart rate will increase and so will your cardio capacity. This is an ideal trick for walkers, since the timing of their paces is slower, and so the movements are easier to integrate.

Cardio exercises are basically divided into two groups - slow and steady exercise and high intensity using interval type formats. Slow exercises and constants are usually long duration comprising 45 minutes to an hour and the exercises are low intensity for most of the fat burning carbohydrates and joints are preserved. The high intensity / interval exercises are usually of short duration to about 20 to 30 minutes, the type of exercise is high intensity interval training, burn more calories and keeps you pepped all day and usually involve explosive movements like sprinting, weightlifting, etc.

The best way to start is to just go for a walk. This allows you to do cardio exercise and some fresh air at once. Make sure you prepare for the weather. If a hot day, bring a hat and extra water.
