Have you noticed how people just go at their leisure to the gym and read newspapers or take a favorite book with them when they are on the exercise bikes, recumbent bikes or even the cross trainers ? They are the same people that if you track their progress or lack thereof over a period of time they generally don't show any results. The reason why they don't show any results is that they are just moving, which as we have mentioned before isn't a bad thing, but it can be better. It's fine if you don't want results and everyone is different. Remember having me time is different for everybody. For those who want the results and want to better themselves well be prepared for some hard work and in the process, work up a little sweat. Reading while using the cardio machines does not enable you to focus on what you are doing because you are concentrating on what's written in front of you. Doing this, you can't really give your best. You are far better off taking your ipod and listening to some up beat music to really motivate you to get you going!! Leave the reading for the train or bus!

Going to workout only because you are feeling guilty from eating the wrong foods.

Yes, I am sure we have all been here before! I've just eaten that mars bar ... or that piece of cheese cake ... and I feel really bad, I shouldn't have done that, I wished I hadn't! - Thoughts and feelings like this are more common than you think. Exercise and a fitness program should be fun not a frantic attempt to purge the body and not something that you do in order to exhibit damage control over bad eating behaviors.

This type of behavior may lead to eating disorders later on down the track. People often exercise excessively for fear of gaining an ounce and the compulsion to exercise at this level can lead to a greater increase in the risk of injury, and even said to be a reason behind Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD).

This is why it is so important to follow a nutritional eating plan and use exercise for getting fit, maintaining health and staying in control in the first place not as an excuse to eat the wrong types of foods or to overeat either!!

Avoiding lifting weights and only using the cardio machines.

Cardiovascular fitness is important to our overall health but it's only one facet of it. As we have also mentioned before numerous times, to have the maximum results a combination of cardio, strength and flexibility training is vital in bringing together the big picture on fitness.

Weight training is very important because not only is it good for all people, it will increase or maintain suppleness, lean body mass, bone mineral density, promotes faster fat burning through the increase of lean muscle tissue, increases functional strength, improves power and boosts performance and as we have mentioned before it promotes joint stability, improves your posture and metabolic rate, can reduce your risk of injury and assist while recovering from an injury. It can also help to ward off and/or alleviate symptoms associated with diseases, illnesses and conditions such as diabetes, osteoarthritis, osteoporosis, high blood pressure, stroke and coronary heart disease. Not forgetting that you will look awesome!

Have you been thinking about strength training at home? Are you looking for a way to save time and stay in top physical shape? Do you wonder if it is possible to get an endurance testing strength workout without leaving the house? First time strength trainers and fitness buffs alike are often surprised to discover that it is possible to build muscle and burn fat in one's own living room! Step 1 - Get your equipment
The first step to launching your own at home strength training workout is finding a space that is both large enough and free of clutter. The amount of space you need also depends on the type of equipment you decide to use. Some strength trainers choose to use equipment like dumbbells, free weights, or stability balls. Resistance bands are another excellent tool for strength training and they take up very little space. If you are low on square footage you can go without equipment altogether and still experience a muscle building strength workout. Just make sure you have a space large enough to fully extend your arms and perform push ups, sit ups, and lunges.

Step 2 - Design a workout plan
You truly have endless options when creating your own strength workout plan. If you decide to use dumbbells you can choose from hundreds of different choices of exercises that will build muscle in your chest, back, biceps, triceps, legs, and calves. Head online or to your local library to decide which areas you want to target first. Resistance band workouts are an alternative to dumbbell strength workouts. Resistance bands are less expensive and not as bulk as dumbbells and also can be used in myriads of creative ways to work nearly every muscle group. Some at home strength trainers choose to pair their resistance band training with a stability ball. If you decide to train without any equipment, you can still build a grueling strength workout with multiple sets of classic muscle building exercises like squats, lunges, incline push ups, and crunches.

Step 3 - Be Consistent
Consistency is the proven method to achieving one's desired results in any workout plan. After designing your new strength workout program, commit to the amount of days you will exercise each week. Start slow and work your way up to full weeks of high intensity workouts. A beginner might exercise three days per week and work his way up to five or six. Allow yourself at least one full day of rest per and pay attention to your daily sleep schedule. Don't forget that proper rest and a healthy diet are vital to the success of your at home strength training program!

  • Bench Press
    Whether you have free-weights or a combination cable, bow or rubber band type home gym: A bench press will likely be part of your setup. They can be done lying, seated or on an incline bench (depending on what you purchase). The bench press will work your entire upper body, while helping to increase your core strength (abs and lower back).
  • Squats / Leg Press
    Many combination home gym setups will have a squat or leg press attachment.   1. Jumping Jacks – Yes, good old fashioned jumping jacks-the same exercise we did as kids. They are an excellent warm-up exercise to start your routine with and provide good cardio benefits if done at a high intensity.
  2. Walking – If the weather is nice, this is a great outdoor activity. Find a nice place to walk and take advantage of the fresh air, sunshine and scenery. This keeps it much more interesting and fun than walking on a treadmill in your basement.

    If the weather outside is not fit for walking, you can stay indoors and do stair climbs instead. This exercise is more of a challenge and can really get your heart pumping if you keep the pace high and rest periods short. Try going up the stairs at a brisk pace and walk back down at your normal speed. Do several sets and you will feel the burn in your legs.

  3. Running in place – If you can't go outside and have no steps at home try running in place. This can be done while watching TV or listening to your MP3 player or radio. Try to maintain a brisk pace for maximum benefits.
  4. Step exercises – These can provide good cardio benefits as well as toning your legs. Just stand in front of the bottom step on a set of stairs or any other solid surface that is the same height. Step up with one foot and then the other, then step back down with one foot and then the other. Increase the pace for a higher intensity workout.
  5. Pushups - Pushups are great for developing arm, shoulder and chest muscles. If you find them to be too difficult at first, try doing them on your knees instead of with your legs straight out. When you feel that they have become too easy, try them with your legs straight for a more challenging workout.

    To really take pushups to the next level, perform them with your legs straight out and your feet elevated on a chair. This method really works the shoulders and chest muscles.

  6. Leg Raises - These are good for toning the abdominal muscles. Simply lie flat on your back and raise your legs about 12 inches off the ground and hold them for 10-15 seconds. If you can't hold them for this long, try doing them with your legs bent.
  7. Crunches - These are another good exercise for toning the midsection. To perform crunches correctly, lie on your back with your knees bent at a 45 degree angle and your feet flat on the floor. Cross your arms across your chest and curl your upper body up while tucking your chin into your chest. Lift up about 18 inches and press your lower back into the floor. When you feel your abdominal muscles contracting you know you are doing them correctly.
  8. Squats – This is a great exercise for your legs and glutes. To do them properly, stand with your feet shoulder width apart and squat down until your thighs are parallel to the ground then slowly stand up again. Be sure to keep your back straight and your head up through the entire movement.
  9. Leg/Arm Raises –This exercise strengthens your core muscles and tones your shoulders and glutes. Start on your hands and knees. Raise your left arm straight out in front of you and your right leg out straight behind you at the same time and hold for 2-3 seconds. Repeat with the opposite arm and leg. Alternate from side to side.
  10. Dancing - Dancing can be a great aerobic exercise if done at high intensity. The really great thing about dancing is that you can have a good workout and have a lot of fun at the same time.

These home exercise routines will keep you in great shape without the expense of purchasing a gym membership, expensive exercise equipment or weights. Just be sure to stick to your program and have fun getting in shape!

A Cardio Routine is one of keys to healthy weight loss. Having a routine will help you maintain a healthy heart and will burn off loads upon loads of calories. Your cardio routine can include jogging, running, swimming, biking, hiking, or any other cardiovascular exercises. These exercises are going to be the way that you lose the weight!

A lot of people will try and tell you that sticking to a cardio routine is hard. The only reason those people tell you this is because they failed. They're just trying to take you down, and don't let them! If you pace yourself and don't overexert yourself too much, then you're cardio routine is going to blast off! People start going gung-ho and tire themselves out quick.

Begin with a pace that you're comfortable with, and then progress from there. Marathon runners couldn't run a marathon when they started, so don't push yourself too hard! You're cardio routine will succeed if you can properly pace yourself. You will lose weight when you pace yourself, and understand that you can't take off all the weight in one day. You can do this!

Take a running routine for example. If you're not all that great at it, then just begin running a half-mile a day (that's only 6 blocks). Do this four days a week as your routine. When you feel comfortable, increase your running to 3/4-a mile (9 blocks). When you start out slowly, then you're burning more calories and not going too hard on yourself. Then you can increase your cardio routine by going 1 mile and beyond! You can apply this pacing principle to any cardio you perform. If you choose to add swimming to your cardio routine, then measuring swimming distance will be extremely hard so time yourself instead! It's really easy if you will just give it a shot. It worked for me and it will work for you!

There's also small choices that you can make to add to your cardio routine. For example, you can try walking to places that are close to home instead of driving. Walking burns a large amount of calories! The more you walk, the more you burn! Park your car further away from your destination so you can give yourself more opportunities to walk. If you have a dog or other pet, play with it more! If you have children, join them outside and play games with them. You'll see that the more physical activity that you add, the easier it will get over time. You'll see results soon, I promise! Start moving around, and add more physical activities to your daily schedule. Your cardio routine won't be hard, but it will be time-consuming. Just imagine your new self-confidence and awesome body!

Let me just give you some examples of some great cardio routines:

1. Running 10 minutes, or jogging for 25minutes
2. Biking for 20 minutes
3. Hiking for 25 minutes
4. Power-walk for 30 minutes

To minimize boredom, try mixing it up a little. Run for 10 minutes on Monday, then hike on Wednesday. Bike on Friday, then Power-walk on Saturday. A hike is not only physically good for you, it's so beautiful. You get to see and smell things that you normally never get to smell. It's so great, and the more you do it the more you'll love it.

Building a cardio routine and sticking to it is not hard. It's easy. YES! You will do it. YES! You will lose weight. YES! You will feel better about yourself. Believe in yourself, and you will succeed. Don't ever let yourself down. Never tell yourself you can't do something! You can do anything if you set your mind to it. So get out and go!

There are a few options if you wish to do some cardio workouts. You could wake up early in the morning and go for a jog or you could head out to your local gym and practice on the treadmill and the step exerciser. However, both of these aren't without their perils. Jogging all by yourself is hazardous because there is no one to guide you with your cardio workout, and heading to the gym is something you won't want to do on a daily basis after a point of time. So, what you really need to know here is that it is quite possible to do your cardio workouts at home. All you have to do is make sure that you have the cleanest environment possible, and then you could be doing it at your own leisure and convenience.

But, is it possible to do a good and effective cardio workout from your home? The answer is yes. There are many cardio exercises that are actually meant to be done indoors. You could invest in a treadmill, an exercise bike, or a step exerciser and work out on them. You could do some sit-ups, squats, spot jumping, skipping, etc - all of which are good cardio workouts.

This could help you to know what's right and what's wrong and you can use that in planning your own workout strategies.
